From the President
Alabama Chapter ACS Members,
I am very humbled and extremely honored to be the president of the Alabama Chapter of the American College of Surgeons this year. I would like to thank you as well as Dr. Jamie Cannon, our recent past president, for her service during this past year.
It was wonderful having our annual meeting in July this year at The Lodge at Gulf State Park. It was great to see our colleagues, vendors and speakers in-person again. We will once again be collaborating with the Mississippi chapter and returning to The Lodge at the Gulf State Park for our conference in 2024. The meeting dates for 2024 are July 25-27 (Thurs-Sat), consisting of 3 half-day sessions on Thursday afternoon and Friday and Saturday morning. However, our block includes the Wednesday before and the Sunday after, so feel free to come early and stay late! The block filled very quickly this year, so we have increased it for the 2024 meeting. Everyone seems to enjoy the beach and the facilities which are fantastic for our very family-oriented meeting. This is a beautiful location to fish, play golf, eat out, get some sun or go for a swim in the pool or gulf!
One of our goals is to provide an educational meeting in a wonderful venue. We would like to encourage medical students, residents, recently graduated surgeons, as well as seasoned surgeons to come enjoy the conference. One of the great advantages of an in-person meeting is getting to know our colleagues around the state and the southeast, making new contacts and getting new friends. I believe most would agree that involvement in state chapter activities is a great way to keep up with medicine around the state and country. This includes economic, political and clinical realms. I certainly encourage those who are members to continue your membership and encourage your colleagues, partners and other surgeons in the state to become involved. Ask your colleagues and partners if they are members of the Alabama Chapter, and if they are not, encourage them to become members and get involved. I urge you all to look at our website for information and communications to help you with your day-to-day practice. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly should you have any questions of suggestions for our chapter. We look forward to seeing you at our meeting next year!
